Maria “Mary” Flores Garcia 92, was granted her angel wings on September 19, 2017. Her final days were spent surrounded by family that she had touched in some small way throughout her long and blessed life. She was married for 49 years to Victor H. Garcia+, who passed away in 1994. We thank our Lord for the wonderful years He allowed Mary to be with us.

As the family matriarch, Mary was always the cornerstone at gatherings and special events. Her contagious smile and selfless spirit would always make any room glow.

Mary dedicated her life serving her community for fifty years as a health care professional at Brownsville Community Health Center. Treasured by many as a guiding light, she inspired family and friends to pursue careers in medicine. In her spare time, Mary enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and Cryptoquip’s.
Mary was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by her family and friends, but by all those fortunate to have known her.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Flores and Emilia D. Flores; her husband, Victor H. Garcia and her daughters, Norma E. Garcia and Molly Barron.

Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of her are her children: Emilia G. Dale, Lydia G. Liendo, Josie H. (Joe) Hinojosa, Mary Elizabeth “Lizzy” (Marty) Peña, and her grandson, Victor J. “VJ” Barron who she raised as a son; fifteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Mary will also be missed by her sisters, Carolina Hernandez, Ana Isabel Durrance and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday September 22, 2017 and continue through 9:00 p.m. in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. The recitation of the holy rosary is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at Darling-Mouser. The Funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. on, September 23rd at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 2800 Rockwell Drive. Committal services will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park. Rolando Barron, Daniel John Dale Jr., Tommy Liendo Jr., Joe Hinojosa, Marty Peña, and Joseph N. Garcia are proud to be serving as Mary’s pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be, Victor J. Barron, Tommy Lee Liendo, Darren Vasquez, Chance Rangel and Dallas Vasquez.

The family thanks her lifelong friends Felipa Rodriguez, Tina Butkus, Marcelo Medina and Rosa Peña. A special thanks to all the medical care provided by Dr. Francis Gumbel, Dr. Luis Gaitan, Dr. Mark Cua and their respective staffs.
