BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Adan Saenz, 75, of Brownsville, Texas, passed away surrounded by loved ones on the evening of Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at Valley Regional Medical Center. A fighter until the end, he battled cancer for nearly five years.
Adan was born on October 20, 1947, to Lorenzo Saenz and Julia Garcia in Laredo, TX. After graduating from Hebbronville High School in 1966, he studied Journalism and Spanish at Texas A&I in Kingsville.
After graduation, Adan landed a job as a reporter in the Rio Grande Valley, interviewing winter Texans, and then transitioned into a career in education, becoming a teacher and administrator.
In 1971, Adan met Yolanda Melendrez in Crystal City, where both were employed by the Crystal City Independent School District. They married on December 22, 1973, and began their lifelong journey, living in Austin, Dallas, and Carrizo Springs, eventually settling in Brownsville, TX. They had three daughters together, Marissa followed by twins Vanessa and Veronica.
Adan was a loving spouse and father who always supported his family. A man of many passions and hobbies, his interests were deeply rooted in the rich experiences of life. He was a poet, photographer, journalist, educator, classic car aficionado, pool and solitaire enthusiast, lover of music, and a comedian at heart.
Anyone who knows Adan will tell you that he always joked around and filled the room with laughter. He not only prioritized his family but cherished his many lifelong friendships as well. Adan was predeceased by his father, Lorenzo Saenz, mother Julia Garica, sister Angela Martinez, sister Eva Cuellar and brother Lorenzo Saenz, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Yolanda M. Saenz, daughters Marissa, Vanessa, and Veronica Saenz, and his older brother Agapito Saenz, his twin brother Alfonso Saenz and his youngest sister Julia Perez, and several nephews and nieces throughout the state of Texas.

Adan’s cremated remains will be laid to rest with his mother and father at 11 am on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the New Hebbronville Cemetery in Hebbronville, TX. The graveside service will be followed by a gathering of family and friends to share stories, laugh and cry as they celebrate Adan’s life in loving remembrance.
