Agapito Z. Zuniga, Jr.

Mr. Agapito Z. Zuniga Jr., 88, our beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather entered into eternal rest surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at Solara Hospital in Brownsville, Texas.

A native and lifetime resident of Brownsville, Mr. Zuniga proudly served his county during World War II, receiving the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Philippine Independence Ribbon, and the World War II Victory Medal.

Mr. Zuniga was preceded in death by his parents, Dorotea Zepeda & Agapito Zuniga Sr.; a sister, Onilia Zuniga, and a grandson, Arturo Zuniga Hernandez.

Mr. Zuniga is survived by his wife of 68 years, Juanita Rodriguez Zuniga; ten children: Melva Zuniga, Jose Enrique (Elvira) Zuniga, David Zuniga, Rosa (Juan) Sanchez, Dora (Luis) Luna, Juan A. Zuniga, Maggie (Abel) Galvan, Elizabeth (Frank) Garza, Agapito Zuniga III, and Daniel (Blanca) Zuniga; 26 grandchildren plus one on the way; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. He is also survived by his siblings: Jesus (Virginia) Zuniga, Oralia (Arturo) Rodriguez, Juan Zuniga, Romeo (Gorgette) Zuniga, Antonio A. (Maria) Zuniga, Hermelinda (Jesus+) Vargas, and Ofelia Z. (Bruno) Valdez; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 9th in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home with a prayer service scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Friday evening. The Funeral Service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10th at Darling-Mouser. Committal services will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens. The VFW Post 2035 will render military honors at the graveside.

Agapito Zuniga III, Daniel Zuniga, Raul Hernandez, Joe Zuniga, Steven Sanchez, Abel William Galvan, and Rick Luna are honored to be serving as Mr. Zuniga's pallbearers.

David Zuniga, Juan A. Zuniga, Jose Enrique Zuniga, Frank Garza, Juan Sanchez, Abelardo Galvan, and Luis Luna will serve as honorary pallbearers.
