Aida Isela Blanco Tullos

Aida Isela Blanco Tullos, a longtime resident of Brownsville, Texas, peacefully entered eternal salvation with the Lord on April 14th. Aida was the 2nd to the last child born to Presbyterian Pastor Asuncion Blanco and Hortencia Maldonado Blanco on Christmas Day in the city of Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. This holy day of the birth of Christ was a catalyst that led Aida to a long religious and righteous journey throughout her 95 years of life. A journey filled with love, hard work, sacrifice, devotion, a loving husband and 6 adoring children.

Aida arrived in Brownsville in 1940, when her father, Pastor Asuncion Blanco, was appointed to be the minister of the Primera Iglesia Presbiteriana Mexicana at 616 E. Jefferson. Shortly thereafter, Aida attended a parochial school, Escuela Presbiteriana Mexicana, in Taft, Texas, where she continued her basic academic studies and learned English which she learned to speak and read well. After graduating, she began working as a bookkeeper for the J.C. Penney Department store on Elizabeth Street. In 1967, she enrolled in American Citizenship classes and became a Naturalized United States Citizen.

At a religious encampment hosted by the Presbyterian and Methodist churches, she was introduced to Oscar H. Tullos, who was attending Southern Methodist University. Their courtship lasted a few mothers, and the marriage ceremony was performed by her father, Pastor Asuncion Blanco on June 4, 1946.

Both were blessed with 6 surviving children: Oscar Jr. (Melissa) of Brownsville, (Grandchildren: Jonathan Craig, Robert Ryan, Allen Phillip, & Adam Clinton); Roland Harry (Anna) of Allen, Texas, (Grandchildren: Jennifer Lynn & Katherine Marie); Darlene (Eddie) Medrano of Harlingen, TX, (Grandchildren: Elizabeth Jane, Rebecca Aida, & Christine Marie); Clifford (Sherry) of San Antonio, (Grandchildren: Zachary Tyler & Cliff Alexander); Sandra Marcia Saccar of Brownsville, TX, (Grandchildren: Michael Andres & Michelle Lea) and Randolph Gary (Elvia) of Pearland, TX, (Grandchildren: Randolph Oscar & William Lorenzo). Great-grandchildren are: Robert Ryan Tullos, Jr. and Camilla Tullos.

Aida Isela is preceded in death by her husband, Professor Oscar H. Tullos who taught in Brownsville at Cummings Middle School and as Department Chair of Foreign Languages at Texas Southmost College. In addition she outlived her affectionate siblings: Nellie, Judith, Aurora, Adiel, and Mario Blanco.

We are grateful and appreciative of the numerous caregivers over the years for their work in assisting our Mother in her daily tasks. Also, we are very thankful for her devoted ard playing friends: Mrs. Maria Perez, Mrs. Socorro Saldaña, & Mrs. Norma Nomeli, who dutifully played card games twice a week for hours on end. Their card games were a joy that brought excitement and happiness to Aida throughout the decades.

Our mother was a beautiful person with an exuberant and exciting personality who had plenty of energy. All that we are we owe to our mother and father. We attribute our success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education we received from them both. She was an Angel in Our Lives.
