Alberto Briseño Jr., 83, of Brownsville entered into the glory of his eternal life on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, in his home surrounded by his loving family.
He attended St. Joseph Academy and Brownsville High School where he was a member of the choir that featured his magnificent voice. He loved to sing and with his vocal range, he had the ability to sing all genres from Opera to Ranchera.
He served in the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey from 1959 - 1962, with the rank of Private First Class. He was a man that loved life, his family, God and country. At the young age of sixteen, Alberto started working in the hotel/motel business and rose in ranks from a bellman to the management position. He worked at the El Jardin Hotel, El Rancho Grande Motel, and Rancho Viejo Resort.
Alberto took fashion cues from no one. His signature every day look was all his - always dress to impress. He loved music, the arts, dancing, and his culture… he was a man for all seasons.
Alberto, also lived in San Benito with his companion of almost forty years Minerva Gomez Ratliff and touched the lives of many. He taught adult basic education for Brownsville ISD where his gift of pedagogy ensured that every learner met their academic potential.
Alberto was preceded in death by his parents, Julia Solis Briseño and Alberto Briseño Sr.; his sisters: Graciela B. Garza and Alma B. Barrera; and his partner, Minerva Ratliff.
Left behind to eternally treasure his memories are his sisters, Levinia B. (Dr. Ernesto) Davila and Zulema B. Esparza; his brother, Antonio (Mary Beatriz) Briseño; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Friday, February 9, 2018 from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Friday evening in the East Chapel at Darling - Mouser Funeral Home. Military honors will be rendered by the VFW at 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 10, at 9:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Cathedral, 1218 E. Jefferson Street, Brownsville, Texas 78520. All services will conclude after the Mass and in accordance with Albert's wishes, cremation will follow.
Antonio Briseño Jr., Francisco O. Garza Jr., Eliseo Davila, James Paschall, Rafael Rangel, and John Perkins are honored to be servings as Alberto's pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. Ernesto S. Davila, Arturo A. McDonald Sr., and Manuel Torres.
Alberto's family would also like to extend their appreciation and heartfelt gratitude to Kindred Hospice for the compassion and care they showed.
As per Alberto's request, in lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church to supplement the pantry that helps feed the homeless in his community.
