BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Alejandra Uribe de Perez entered into eternal rest on Thursday, the 30th of May 2024 in the comfort of her Brownsville residence surrounded by her loving family. She was a few months shy of her 100th birthday.
Alejandra was born in Matehuala, San Luis Potosi, Mexico, daughter of the late Francisco Uribe and Vicenta Molina Uribe. She immigrated to the United States after the Great Depression where she resided in Harlingen, Texas working in canning for HEB before relocating to Brownsville. Though she became a proud United States Citizen, Alejandra always loved and cherished her beloved Mexico. "Es mi México, es mi tierra." She wed Oscar Perez Leos and together had ten children. Four of their sons proudly served their country in the military with three serving in the United States Army and one serving in the United States Air Force; two were drafted into the Vietnam War and the other two served within the states. Alejandra was widowed upon the death of her husband Oscar in 1973 which prompted her to work even harder to provide for her children.
A devout Catholic, her faith was strong. She worked for the Diocese of Brownsville under Bishop Medeiros, Bishop Fitzpatrick, Bishop San Pedro, and Bishop Pena, worked at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, and St. Joseph Catholic Church, and retired from the Incarnate Word Convent in Brownsville.
Her favorite pastimes included sewing and cooking. She liked to be independent and her motto was "use it if you have it, but never borrow."
Preceding Alejandra in death was her husband, Oscar Perez Leos; her children Frank Perez (Bonnie), Olga Perez, Juan Perez (Irene), and Socorro Nilan (Mark+); her grandchildren Mathew, Mike, and Oscar "Cookie Crumb" Almaraz, Jr.; her parents, Francisco Uribe and Vicenta Molina Uribe; and her siblings Raul Uribe (Carmen+), Berta Herrera (Juan+), and Francisca Rodriguez (Ramon+).
Survivors include her children Ignacio Perez (Irma), Esther Nance (Bill), Dolores Moon, Carmen Perez Almaraz (Oscar), Oscar Perez, Jr., and Rene Perez; her sister, Ernestina Martinez (Jesus+); in addition to numerous grandchildren and extended family members.
