Alfonso B. Rodriguez Sr, 93, beloved husband, father, grandfather, greatgrandfather, brother, and uncle, entered into the glory of his eternal life on Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at the Solara Hospital in Brownsville surrounded by his loving family.
Alfonso was born in San Benito, Texas and a lifetime resident of Brownsville. He was preceded in death by his parents: Emilio Rodriguez and Aurora Bolado and brothers: Abel and Emilio Rodriguez Jr.
Left behind to eternally treasure his memory is his wife of 67 years: Virginia Perez Rodriguez, his children: Alfonso Cecilia Rodriguez Jr., Stella Roy Diaz, and Anna Frank Lopez. His grandchildren: Dianne Aric Escue, Lori Mike Robinett, Virginia Miguel Sias, Alfonso Rodriguez III, Rolando Rebecca Diaz Jr, Xavier Norma Lopez, Verna Lopez and 11 greatgrandchildren. He will also be missed by his 3 sisters: Guadalupe Juan Ramirez, Delia David Trevino, Aurora Alfred Bartlett his brother: Armando Cecilia Rodriguez and numerous nieces and nephews.
Alfonso was a barber for over 72 years owning the Regal Barber Shop up until his retirement. He proudly served 5 years in the U.S. Army and was a WWII Veteran where he served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations, Luzon, Bismark, Archipelago, Southern Philippine and New Guinea. He was a light machine gunner receiving the AsiaticPacific Campaign Medal with four Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal with two Bronze Stars and the American Defense Service Medal.
Alfonso was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church, lifetime member of the American Legion John Hanson Post 43 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2035 of Brownsville, Texas.
A special gratitude is extended to Dr. Wellington staff of the Harlingen VA Clinic, Spanish Meadows Nursing Center staff, Valley Baptist Medical CenterBrownsville staff, Solara Hospital staff and Dr. Karkoutly for being great angels to the Rodriguez family.
Visitation will begin at 12 noon on Friday, Jan. 22, and continue through 9 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. at the DarlingMouser Funeral Home.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 23, at St. Lukes Catholic Church, 2800 Rockwell Dr, Brownsville. Interment will follow at Buena Vista Cemetery, 125 McDavitt Blvd, Brownsville.
Pallbearers will be Frank and Xavier Lopez, Rolando Diaz, Alfonso Rodriguez III, Juan V. Ramirez Jr, and Raynaldo Rodriguez Sr. Honorary pallbearers will be Alfonso Rodriguez Jr, Armando Rodriguez and Rolando Diaz Jr.
