Alfred Petrarca, Jr., 88, of Brownsville, entered into eternal rest on Monday, December 29, 2008 at Sunshine Haven surrounded by his loving family.
Alfred was very proud to be a part of the 1938-1940 Brownsville High Championship Football team. He served in the U.S. Airforce during World War II, where he was a P.O.W. in the Philippines for three and a half years and also survived the Batton Death March.
Mr. Petrarca was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Celedonia S. Petrarca and by two brothers, John Petrarca. He is survived by his wife, Dora Petraca, his children, Alfred Isabel Petrarca III, Joe Alma Petrarca, Louis Sylvia Petrarca, Edward Maggie Petrarca and Patricia Gene Ruiz all of Brownsville, 15 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and other relatives.
Visitation will begin on Thursday, January 1, 2009 at 10a.m. until 9p.m., with a prayer service to be held at 7:30p.m., in the Chapel of Darling-Mouser. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 2, at 2p.m., in the Chapel of Darling-Mouser with burial to follow at Buena Vista Burial Park. Military rites will be held at the gravesite by the V.F.W. Post 2035 under the direction of Commander Luis Lucio.
Pallbearers will be Edward, Sam, Peter, Joseph, and Paul Petrarca, and Hector Gomez.
