Mr. Alfredo S. Arteaga, 80, our beloved father, grandfather, greatgrandfather, brother, uncle, and friend entered into the glory of his eternal life on Monday, December 03, 2012 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville, TX surrounded by his loving family.
Alfredo was a native and lifetime resident of Brownsville. Alfredo was a hardworking man who gave his all for his family and friends. Alfredo worked for Firestone, Edelsteins, Marathon LeTourneau, the Brownsville PUB, and the BISD before retiring at the age of 62 to be able to enjoy the fruits of his hard work and labor.
After retiring, Alfredo enjoyed gardening but his true passion lay in all things that were Western in the nature. This love of western memorabilia came from having been the son of Brownsvilles first blacksmith. Alfredo was proud of the collection of steer heads that he proudly showed off in his backyard.
Alfredo was a loving and devoted husband and father who taught his children how to be loving, caring, and generous with both family and friends. Alfredo, a devout Catholic, was a parishioner at St. Josephs Catholic Church, where together with his wife served their church community. Alfredo was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by those fortunate to have known him.
Alfredo was preceded in death by his parents, Rafael and Maria Arteaga a son, Jose Alfredo Areaga and two brothers, Rafael Jr. and Raul Arteaga.
Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of him is his beloved wife of 60 years, Elvia Botello Arteaga his children: Jesus Rafael Diana Arteaga, Alfredo Olga Arteaga Jr., Sandy Jesse Serna, Raymond Arteaga, Lupita Brett Clement, and Martha A. Lazaro Alva fifteen grandchildren five greatgrandchildren a sister, Maria Perez a brother, Robert Toni Arteaga and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 05, 2012, and continue through 9:00 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary scheduled for 7 p.m. in the evening in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 06, 2012 at St. Josephs Catholic Church 555West St. Francis St. Committal services will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
Rafael Arteaga, Alfredo Arteaga, Raymundo Arteaga, Raymond Arteaga Jr., Robert A. Serna, Carlos Garza, and Lazaro Alva are honored to be serving as Alfredos pallbearers. The rest of Alfredos grandchildren and greatchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Alfredos family would like to express their sincere and heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Jaime Silva and Dr. Luis H. Robles his nurses, Judy and Nancy and their assistants, Jose, Maria, and Martha for the tender and compassionate care with which they ministered to him. May God continue to bless you as you minister to others.
