Mr. Alfredo C. Garcia, 87, beloved husband, father, grandfather, greatgrandfather, brother, uncle, and friend entered into the glory of his eternal life on Sunday, February 10, 2013, at his daughters residence in San Benito, TX surrounded by his loving family.

Alfredo was a native and lifetime resident of Brownsville. Alfredo was weeks away from his high school graduation when Uncle Sam came calling and drafted him into service during WW II. Alfredo left enlisted in the Army and proudly served his country during WW II. He was stationed in Central Europe Germany and he and his fellow servicemen helped liberate some of the prisoners at Auschwitz, earning them the name Liberators. After his honorable discharge, Alfredo was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, and American Theater Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Victory Medal. In 2001, some 50 years later, Alfredo proudly walked the walk and received his high school diploma.

Upon his return home, Alfredo joined the U. S. Postal Service. He was a dedicated employee for 32 years. During his tenure with the Postal Service he belonged to the NALC and even served as its president.

Alfredo was a devout Catholic and a longtime parishioner of St. Mary Mother of the Church Parish, where he served as a volunteer in various organizations including: their Food Pantry and also as a Eucharistic Minister. Alfredo belonged to Senior Friends at Valley Regional Hospital. Alfredo was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all those fortunate to have known him.

Alfredo was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Rosa Garcia a granddaughter, Cynthia Lopez his parents, Julian and Esther Garcia two sisters, Eulogia Locha Abrego and Angelica G. Garza and three brothers: Gilberto, Julian, and Roberto Garcia.

Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of him are his children: Margarita Ireneo GarciaGuevara, Alfredo Ernestina Garcia, Rosalinda Alfredo Muoz, Olga Salvador Gonzales, Miguel Lupe Garcia, and Ricardo Patricia Garcia.

Alfredo will also be missed by his grandchildren: Raul Lopez, Roberto A. Lopez, Alfredo Garcia III, Mary Ann Garcia, Yvonne GarciaHurley, Christina Garcia, Alfredo Muoz, Dr. Cynthia Melissa Muoz PhD., David Muoz, Michelle Gonzales, Salvador Gonzales Jr., and Marissa Rose Garcia six greatgrandchildren his brother, Guadalupe Lucy Garcia and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2013, and continue through 9:00 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday evening in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 15, 2013, at St. Marys Catholic Church, 1914 Barnard Road, Brownsville. Committal services will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Family members are honored to be serving as Alfredos pallbearers. The VFW Post 2035 Funeral Honor Guard will be providing military honors at the graveside.
