BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Alicia Cantu Garcia, 81, of Brownsville, Texas, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, entered into eternal rest on the 27th of February 2022, at 1:27 P.M. at Valley Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Brownsville, Texas on May 2, 1940.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Salvador D. Garcia; her parents, Pablo and Lucia Duran Cantu; and by her brothers, Rey Cantu and Rodolfo Cantu.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Alfonso Garcia, Letty Villarreal, Lucy Lopez, Arnold Garcia, Lulu Bueno, and Lorraine Garcia; siblings Palmira Cantu Hernandez, Romana Cantu Morales, Pablo Cantu, Jr., Celia Cantu Medina, Lucy Ramirez, Mary Lou Anderson, Rolando Cantu, and Rosie Cantu; sisters-in-law, Ofelia Garcia, and Rosa Hernandez; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Alicia worked for Levi Strauss was a supervisor until her retirement. A devout Catholic, Alicia was very involved at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church where she served as a reader. In her spare time, she loved gardening, traveling, dancing, and enjoyed Saturday cookouts at the ranch. Most of all, Alicia loved her family and her grandchildren brought her much joy.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, the 4th of March 2022 between the hours of one o’clock in the afternoon and nine o’clock at night, with a recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o’clock Friday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at one o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 5th of March 2022 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 1055 Military Highway, Brownsville. Committal services will then follow, via an escorted procession, at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4464 Old Port Isabel Road, Brownsville.
