Alicia A. Mayorga

BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Alicia A. Mayorga entered into eternal rest on Thursday, the 7th of November 2019 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas surrounded by her loving family. She was sixty-five years of age.

A very caring, understanding, but feisty individual, Alicia always followed the wishes, wants, and needs of others before taking care of herself. Her parents instilled in her the values of what makes a true, close-knit family. Alicia had fond memories of talking on the phone with her mother nightly. She in turn, instilled these same values within her own children. She was a protective mother and was extremely proud of her two daughters and all of their academic achievements in their pursuit of a higher education. Alicia was a librarian aide at Oliveira Middle School in Brownsville, Texas for numerous years.

In her spare time, she enjoyed the outdoors and tending to her garden and yard, where she was often surrounded by the birds that she adored watching and at times, had to chase and fend off the neighbors rogue goats scattered amongst her plants, as well as walking around the Brownsville Sports Park; she enjoyed cooking for her family, frequently making her granddaughter her favorite pancakes in the mornings, as well as eating, sometimes sneaking in a late night snack and often times, would attempt to snack off of someone else’s plate, and enjoyed her husband’s cooking, particularly the brisket and ribs he would barbeque as well as her love for seafood; she loved to dance from start to finish; she looked forward to going to the movie theater with her husband Alberto every weekend; and she would affectionately expect her daily five o’clock call from daughter Angie every evening.

She will forever be remembered as a loving daughter, a fantastic wife, an outstanding mother, an affectionate grandmother, and the infamous, backseat driver. Alicia was a genuinely a great woman overall who will be dearly missed by all of those fortunate enough to have known her and her distinct, funny laugh.

Her parents, Basilio and Guadalupe Aguilar; brother, Basilio Aguilar, Jr. and his wife Irma; and father-in-law, Benito Mayorga, Jr., preceded her in death.

Alicia is survived by her caring and devoted husband of forty-one years, Alberto Mayorga; their two loving daughters, Brenda Denise Mayorga and Angela Corrine Mayorga; beloved grandchildren, Diego Antonio Mayorga and Everly Denise Mayorga, affectionately known by her as Everliny; two surviving siblings, Gloria (Oscar) Buentello and Roberto (Manuela) Aguilar; cousin Jesus Juarez and his wife, Norma, both of whom were close to her; as well as her special, canine companions Rosie, Lexi, and RooRoo. Also surviving her are her close cousins whom she cherished greatly.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, the 9th of November 2019 between the hours of five o’clock in the afternoon and nine o'clock at night, with a recitation of the holy rosary to begin at six o'clock in the evening. A Chapel Service will commence at seven o’clock Saturday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
