BAYTOWN, TX. – Amalia M. Hinojosa entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, the 16th of March 2022 in the comfort of her residence in Baytown, Texas surrounded by her family. She was eighty-eight of age.
Amalia was born in Brownsville, Texas on December 4, 1933, daughter of Miguel and Francisca Vela Martinez. She married Leonardo Hinojosa on the 28th of August 1955 in Matamoros, Mexico and together they had two sons, Carlos and Juan, and a daughter, Sylvia. Amalia worked at the Brownsville Independent School District for nineteen years as a bus monitor before retiring. She was a devout Catholic and dedicated to her family. Amalia was all heart and sincere. Never once did she complain nor would she get upset. She was simple and caring and she will be missed by her family, her friends, and all of those fortunate enough to have known her.
Preceding Amalia in death was her loving and devoted husband of forty-nine years, Leonardo Hinojosa; her son, Carlos E. Hinojosa; her parents, Miguel and Francisca Vela Martinez; and her brother, Rodolfo Martinez-Vela and his wife, Tomasita.
Survivors include her children, Sylvia Morales (Alfredo) and Juan Miguel Hinojosa (Mary Lou); daughter-in-law, Margarita Hinojosa; grandchildren Carlos E. Hinojosa, Jr. (Romey), Marco Antonio Hinojosa (Anna), Leonardo Hinojosa, Carlos E. Lopez, Edgar A. Morales, Orlando D. Morales (Virginia), Xavier H. Morales, Juan Miguel Hinojosa (Klarissa), Andres Hinojosa, Gisel Hinojosa, and Ashley Marie Hinojosa; great-grandchildren Deborah J. Fernandez (David), Kristina Morales, Alyssa M. Morales, Madison Morales, Damian Morales, Orlando D. Morales, Jr., Sebastian Morales, Matthew Morales, Ulysses Hinojosa, Hector H. Hinojosa, Vianney Hinojosa, and Briana Carisales; and siblings Reynaldo Martinez-Vela (Sylvia), Tomas Martinez-Vela (Concepcion), Irma Garcia (Carlos +), and Lydia Guerrero (Julian).
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, the 22nd of March 2022 between the hours of twelve noon and nine o’clock at night, with a recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o’clock Tuesday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ten o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 23rd of March 2022 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 1914 Barnard Road, Brownsville. Committal services will then follow, via an escorted procession, at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 McDavitt Boulevard, Brownsville.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are her grandsons Carlos E. Hinojosa, Jr., Marco Antonio Hinojosa, Leonardo Hinojosa, Edgar A. Morales, Orlando D. Morales, Xavier H. Morales, Juan Miguel Hinojosa, and Andres Hinojosa.
Honorary pallbearers are her grandson, Carlos E. Lopez, and granddaughters, Gisel Hinojosa and Ashley Marie Hinojosa.
