Anastacio Gaitan Guilln, 84, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle entered into the glory of his eternal life on Thursday, January 17, 2008 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville.
Mr. Guilln was born in McNeil, Texas on April 27, 1923. As a young boy he moved to Valle Hermoso, Tamps., Mexico where he met and married his wife, Angela Chavira, from Olivia, Texas. He and his wife moved to Brownsville more than 50 years ago where they raised their family of 11 children.
He worked for Cameron County Pct. 1 as a Foreman for the Road Maintenance Dept. for over 40 years. During those 40 years he served under the following Pct. 1 Commissioners: Tony Tamayo, Johnny Cavazos, Ted Hunt, D.J. Lerma, Lucino Rosenbaum, and Pete Benavides. After retiring, he owned and operated 20 acres of farmland some of which he later developed into Guilln Cemetery. He was a longtime parishioner of Christ the King Catholic Church where he was involved with Valley Interfaith.
Mr. Guilln emphad the importance of an education. He was a devoted Catholic who instilled love of family, country, and hard work in his children. He will be dearly missed by all those fortunate to have known him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecilio and Francisca Guilln and 2 brothers, Raymundo L. and Gregorio Guilln.
Left behind to eternally treasure his memory is his loving wife of 57 years, Angela C. Guilln; his 11 children: Juanita Police Chief Paul Campbell Sr., Frances Lupe Cantu, Ma. del Rosario Guile Garza, Ma. de Jesus Charlie Armendariz, Sergio Yvonne Guilln, Graciela Armando Lopez, Jaime Teresa Guilln, Cristina Angelo Casaburri, Ma. Guadalupe Oscar Zrate, Ruben Sandra Guilln, and Pearl Danny Besteiro; 14 grand-children; 4 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters: Augustina Erasmo Martinez, Beatrice Santos Elijio, and Guadalupe Hernandez; and 3 brothers: Reyes Bertha Guilln, Epifanio Gloria Guilln, and Cecilio Julia Guilln together with numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation and a rosary service were held yesterday at Christ the King Catholic Church. Visitation will resume this morning at 10 a.m. in the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Resurrection will be at 3 p.m. this afternoon at Christ the King Catholic Church, 2255 Southmost Road. Interment will follow at Guilln Cemetery.
Mr. Guillns sons, Jaime, Sergio, and Ruben along with his grandsons, Paul Campbell Jr., Armando Lopez Jr., Jaime Andres Guilln, Angelo Mario Casaburri, and David Saldaa are honored to be serving as pallbearers for their father and grandfather.
His 8 sons-in-law; Police Chief Paul Campbell Sr., Jose Guadalupe Cantu, Guile Garza, Charlie Armendariz, Armando Lopez, Angelo Casaburri, Oscar Zrate, and Daniel Besteiro will serve as honorary pallbearers.
