Andrea P. Fernandez was the first born child on March 23, 1922 to the late Roman and Isidora Garcia Pineda in Brownsville. She was lovingly known and will be remembered as Aunt or Grandma Pine the matriarch of the PinedaFernandez family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Pepe Fernandez, a sister, Catalina P. Shull, a brother, Gilberto Pineda and brothers-in-law, Lee Chandler, George Fernandez, Enrique Fernandez, and Eduardo S. Fernandez, her sisters-in-law, Mary Longoria, Carmen Craven, Anna Trevino, Chepa Martinez, Elena Delgado, Chata Cisneros.
Andrea had been a dedicated and loyal employee of Johnsons International until her retirement a year and a half ago. She was known to be a strong willed and a feisty employee. Her work ethics through her 86years of age would put many people to shame at this time in life. She was very dedicated to her family and was the foundation in keeping everyone together. Grandma Pine kept an impeccable home and appearance. She always looked forward to the holidays and festivities to decorate her home for the seasons. Halloween was her favorite in dressing up and providing hundreds of goody bags for all who came. Aunt Pine or Grandma Pine will be dearly missed by all who cared and loved her.
Andrea is survived by two daughters, Norma Charlie Chavez, Becky Eddie Gamez, five sons, Ruben Brenda, Joe Thelma, Jimmy Mariana, Ricky Connie and Noe Fernandez. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, her sisters, Dora Bert Blanchard and Nina Chandler, her brothers, Roman Ninfa Pineda, Johnny Gracie Pineda, Javier Alejandra Pineda, a sister-in-law, Mildred Pineda, and brothers-in-law, Lico Fernandez, and Luis Fernandez of San Benito.
Visitation will begin Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 12noon with an evening service to be held at 7p.m., in the chapel of Darling-Mouser. Funeral services will be held at 3p.m., Friday, April 4, in the chapel of Darling-Mouser with Pastor Steve Dorman officiating. Burial will follow to Buena Vista Burial Park.
A special thanks to her caretakers Maria Luisa Puga and Juanita Andrade Maldonado and the doctors and nurses at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Fernandez, Johnny Pineda, Jr., Eddie Gamez, Jr., Eddie Fernandez, Gilbert Pineda and Zane Arredondo. Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Chavez, Eddie Gamez, Loy Pineda, Eric Gamez and Bernard Blanchard.
