Angelina Paredes Olivares, 90, beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, entered the glory of her eternal life on Friday, July 9, 2021, at Spanish Meadows Nursing Home in Brownsville, Texas with her family by her side.
Angie, as she was affectionately known to all, was born in 1930 in Brownsville to Guadalupe Rodriguez Paredes and Miguel Paredes Sr. She was one of 12 children. She graduated from Brownsville High School in 1952. Angie married the love of her life, Jesus “Jesse” Olivares in 1956 and they were married for 50 years before his passing in 2007. Angie was a loyal and dedicated employee of the Brownsville Public Utilities Board in the Customer Service Department for 43 years before retiring to enjoy the fruits of her labor.
Angie was a devout Catholic and a longtime faithful parishioner at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She was a member of the Club Guadalupanas and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. In her spare time, Angie enjoyed her favorite hobby, gardening.
Angie was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by her family and friends but by all those fortunate enough to have known her.
Angie was preceded in death by her husband, Jesus “Jesse” Olivares, Jr., her son, Robert Olivares, her parents, Guadalupe R. and Miguel Paredes Sr., and 10 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her two daughters, Rosalinda “Rosie” Olivares-Hugonnett (Joe Hugonnett) Graciela “Gracie” Olivares (Alyse Duffer), her son, Richard “Rick” Olivares; her sister, Maria del Carmen Paredes Zepeda (Ramon Zepeda), grandchildren: Victoria Alexandra Sosa, Richard “Rick” Olivares, Jr., and Jessica Olivares Dennes, (Albert Dennes), and her great-grandson, Albert Elias Dennes Jr. Included are her goddaughter/niece Hermelinda Mendez and her nephew Jose Luis Mendez, whom she considered as her children. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 15, 2021, in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. The recitation of the Holy Rosary is scheduled for Thursday evening at 7:00 PM. Visitation will resume at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 16, 2021, and continue until 1:30 p.m. The funeral Mass is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 16, 2021, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1200 Lincoln St. Committal services will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
Richard Olivares, Jr., Miguel Angel Zepeda, Luis Antonio Zepeda, Luis Paredes, Mario Benavidez, and Jacob Garcia will be serving as pallbearers.
Hermelinda “Hermie” Mendez, Jose “Joe” Luis Mendez, and Joe Hugonnett will serve as honorary pallbearers.
