Anita Rojano Crixell, whose generosity, strength and beauty were surpassed only by her allencompassing love for her family, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, surrounded by family.
Anita Rojano was born in 1930 in Brownsville, Texas, one of two children of Indelacio Carlos Rojano and Annie Sue Wood. In 1951, Anita met Frank Crixell Jr., and after a brief courtship, the two were wed. Their union produced seven children affectionately dubbed The Magnificent Seven by Frank and Anita showered them with love through their formative years, the vast majority of them spent being raised Catholic at the family home on West Washington Street in Brownsville.
After Franks death in 1997, Anita moved to her retirement condo at Valley International Country Club where she lived the rest of her days happily playing host to children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren for rousing games of Chickenfoot, one of her favorite pastimes, and heaping helpings of her renowned home cooking.
Her burgeoning family, spread across Texas and as far away as Georgia and southern Mexico, delighted in visits, chats and calls with its beloved matriarch, whose everpresent smile, inimitable laugh and tender heart never faded.
To the children who survive her, Anita passed on some of her best qualities: Susan Ann received her intelligence and intuition Mary Catherine her caring and gentle nature Frank Stephen her quiet strength and incomparable work ethic Amy Ruth her strong will and determination Charles Alexander her passion for prose James Patrick her positive nature and quick wit and Joan Elizabeth her sweetness and charm.
Anita Crixell touched the lives of all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank Crixell Jr., and his parents, Marcella and Frank Crixell Sr. She will forever be mourned by her seven children and their spouses, Susan Dale Duke of Austin, Cathy Klein of The Woodlands, Steve Lisaann Crixell of Spring, Amy Gordon Lipscomb of Brownsville, Charlie Sharon Crixell of Spring, James Gina Crixell of Brownsville, and Joanie Brett Butler of Austin. Other survivors include: her brother, Charles Pearl Rojano her eighteen grandchildren, seven greatgrandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Anitas family would like to take this opportunity to thank her caregivers, Lupita and Edith, for the care and comfort they bestowed upon her and her dear friend Antoinette for her loving kindness, enduring friendship and neverending support.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 8th from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. The family will begin to receive friends starting at 5:00 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at DarlingMouser. A Liturgical Funeral Service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 9th at St. Marys Catholic Church, 1914 Barnard Road in Brownsville. Committal services will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
