Our lovely Anita Esparza was greeted by Our Lord at her home on June 23, 2011. She was born on July 26, 1924, in Brownsville, Texas.
Her parents, Valentin and Candelaria Salinas moved to Rio Hondo, Texas where she spent her childhood with her brothers and sisters. The family then moved to Raymondville, Texas, where her parents owned and operated a dry goods store, V. Salinas Dry Goods Store. She was a graduate of Raymondville High School in 1943 she then attended Incarnate Word Universitys Nursing School, Santa Rosa. She graduated in 1947 and continued to be a member of Santa Rosas alumnae and attended with great pleasure every homecoming, eager to see her lifelong friends.
She married Roger C. Esparza, Sr., on May 15, 1949, in Raymondville, Texas. The couple moved to San Antonio, Texas where they began their family. Anita was a hospital supervisor and a surgical RN. She loved her career. Her daughter, Alma Ann and her son Roger Charles Esparza Jr. were both born in San Antonio.
The young couple moved to Brownsville in 1954. Anita worked as an office RN for Dr. Krishna, an Eye, Ear, and Throat doctor she then chose to work for Dr. Harry Miller as a surgical nurse. She then had her second son, David Howard Esparza.
Having all this varied experience in nursing but with three young children to raise, she decided to apply for a position with the Brownsville Independent School District. She not only got the job, she went on to faithfully serve the district for 34 years, enriched by the lifelong friends of many ages and the experiences that only school nursing could provide. To this day, many people would come up to her and ask, Mrs. Esparza, are you still a nurse Yes, Mrs. Anita Esparza is and always will be a wonderful nurse and she is probably using her skills to help others in heaven. She will be truly missed by all who loved her.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents her husband a sister, Teresa Saenz and two brothers, Hilario and Roberto Salinas. She is survived by her three children, Alma Ann John K. Frisch, of Mission Viejo, CA, Roger Charles Susan Esparza Jr. of Round Rock, TX and David Howard Mary Lou Esparza of Brownsville two sisters, Frances Acebo of Austin, TX and Alicia Perez of Corpus Christi, TX her grandchildren: Stephen K. Frisch, Jennifer Ann Bobby Herrera, Phillip Daniel Monica Esparza, Vanessa Esparza, and Carol Ann Dillion two greatgrandchildren, Camillia Esparza and Hunter Herrin. She will also be missed by her loving caregiver of three years, Maria Guadalupe TrujilloOntiveros.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 26 in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home with the recitation of the holy rosary scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 27th at St. Marys Catholic Church, 1914 Barnard Road, Brownsville, Texas. There will not be a procession from the funeral home to the church we ask that everyone meet at St. Marys for the Mass.
All services will conclude at the church and in accordance with Anitas wishes, cremation will follow. There will be a private committal service for family at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Anitas name may be made to St. Marys Catholic School, 1300 Los Ebanos Blvd., Brownsville, TX 78520.
