Anthony P. Garcia, 99, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, fatherinlaw, uncle and friend entered into the glory of his eternal life on Thursday, September 19, 2013, at Valley Regional Medical Hospital in Brownsville surrounded by his loving family.
Anthony, was born in Xuane, La Corua, Galicia, Spain. He immigrated in 1927 with his parents coming into the US thru Ellis Island. His family settled in New York where Anthony lived for a number of years. He was very proud to have worked as a young man with the Civilian Conservation Corp. CCC. Anthony then joined the Army Air Corp., which later became the U.S. Air Force, and proudly served our country for 21 years until he retired as a Master Sergeant. Anthony was stationed throughout the United States including several years in Hawaii. He was also stationed in Peru, Bolivia, and Panama.
During one of his visits to Monterrey, Mexico, Anthony met the love of his life, Concepcion Villarreal. They fell in love and were married. It was then that they chose to make Brownsville their home, so that his beloved Conchita would be close enough to home to visit as often as possible. After settling in Brownsville, Anthony worked at I.C.C.E.S. at the Brownsville Airport for ten years as an aircraft prop mechanic.
Anthony was a man of many talents. He loved to do woodwork, to read and write his memoirs. He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, gardening, going to the beach, and fishing, but most of all he was a movie buff. Anthony had a great collection of movies that spanned a great many years.
Anthony was a quiet, thoughtful, caring man. It was always a joy to be in his company. His favorite expression was, Hey kid Anthony was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by his family and friends but by all those fortunate to have known him.
Anthony was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Adolfo, Joseph and Manuel Garcia, and a daughterinlaw, Wanda C. Garcia.
Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of him is his loving wife of 53 years, Concepcion V. Garcia his children: Robert V. Lori Langdon Garcia, Catalina Sergio Loya, and Alice G. Ezequiel Zeke Aguilar the grandchildren that were his pride and joy, Christina V. Garcia, Allison Reann Pineda, Aria Kelly Aguilar, and Anthony Aguilar and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, September 22, 2013 in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening. The Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 23, 2013, at St. Marys Catholic Church, 1914 Barnard Road, Brownsville. Committal services will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens. Military Honors will be rendered by the American Legion John Hanson Post 43 Funeral Honor Guard at the graveside.
