Antonio Tony Garza , Senior, 70, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend, entered into the glory of his eternal life on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Solara Hospital in Brownsville, Texas in the presence of his loving family.
Tony, a native and lifetime resident of Brownsville, was born on September 30, 1940. In spite of his humble beginnings, Tony was able to attend and graduate from St. Josephs Academy on a scholarship. He was a tough and athletic boy, who became a star football player at St. Joe. Upon graduating from high school, Tony traveled to the MidWest to work in the agricultural fields as a migrant farm worker. After returning to Texas, Tony attended Texas Southmost College before enlisting in the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country during the Viet Nam conflict.
In 1968, Tony married his high school sweetheart, Ernestina Gonzalez, to whom he was married until his passing. With the skills Tony had learned in the Air Force, he was able to obtain employment with the U. S. Department of Defense and the U. S. Department of Transportations Federal Aviation Administration. Until his retirement in 1997, Tony worked with the F.A. A. as an airway transportation system specialist in various South Texas cities including: San Antonio, Laredo, and Brownsville. Tony also proudly served as a union representative.
Tony loved his wife and two sons, Antonio Jr. and Sergio with all of his heart. They will always love him with all of their hearts. His strength of character and sense of humor will be dearly missed. Tony will be dearly missed by all those fortunate to have known him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Teodoro and Antonia M. Garza and his brothers, Gilberto and Donicio Vasquez.
Left to eternally treasure his memory are his loving wife of 42 years, Ernestina G. Garza his two sons, Antonio Jr. and Sergio and his wife Vanessa his sister, Frances Garza his grandchildren, Adriana, Alejandro, and Carina Isabel and numerous extended family members.
Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. on Monday, April 11, 2011 and continue through 9 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m. this evening in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. Visitation will resume at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12th in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser. The Funeral Mass will be at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at St. Lukes Catholic Church. In accordance with Tonys wishes, all services will conclude at the church and cremation will follow.
Military honors will be conducted after the Mass by the American Legion Post 43 Funeral Honor Guard under the direction of Commander Raul Leal.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Tonys name may be made to St. Lukes Catholic Church, 2800 Rockwell Dr., Brownsville, TX 78521.
