Antonio Tony R. Lopez Sr., 58, beloved husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend entered into the Glory of God on Saturday, January 29, 2011at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville surrounded by his loving family after a valiant battle with cancer.
Tony, one of ten children, was born in Brownsville on July 5, 1952 to Frank and Delia Lopez who preceded him death as well as his first wife, Maria Sylvia Lopez. Tony had a career in Law Enforcement that spanned 38 years. He served as the Chief of Police for the City of Los Fresnos for 10 years then spent the next 28 years with the Cameron County Sheriffs Dept. Tony served on the 911 Board of Directors for Cameron County and was a founding member of the Boys and Girls Club in Los Fresnos. The Los Fresnos Chamber of Commerce presented Tony with a plaque of appreciation in honor of all he had done for the City and citizens of Los Fresnos. Tony was also a member of the Cameron County Deputy Association.
Tony was an avid walker. He also enjoyed fishing and picnics at the beach with his wife and family. He loved travelling and road trips. He was a Life Member and a devout Pentecostal at New Life Center United Pentecostal Church. Tony will be truly missed by all those fortunate to have known him.
Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of him is his beloved wife, Minerva Minnie Lopez his children: Herlinda Delia Lopez, Francisco Eduardo Margarita, and Antonio Ramon Ana Lopez Jr., his stepchildren: Jessica Gonzalez, Ramon and Sandra Gonzalez, and Eric Gonzalez his grandchildren: Tony, Marsyl, Victoria, Bianca, Lucy, and Ashlynn his stepgrandchildren: Monica, Ramon, and Sara. He will also be deeply missed by his brothers and sisters: Sylvia L. Ray Atkinson of Corpus Christi, TX, Guadalupe C. Hilda Lopez of Indianapolis, IN, Frank N. Lydia Lopez Jr., Maria L. Ray Lopez, Juan J. Mary Lopez, Jesus A. Mary Lopez, Cruz M. Alicia Lopez, Christian N. Rosie Lopez, and Teresa L. Jose Paredes all from Brownsville, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, January 31, 2011 and continue through 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Monday evening at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at New Life Center United Pentecostal Church, 3665 Old Highway 77, Brownsville, TX. Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Tonys sons: Antonio Ramon Lopez Jr., and Francisco Eduardo Lopez, together with his brothers Jesus Arturo Lopez, Cruz Manuel Lopez, Christian N. Lopez, and Guadalupe C. Lopez are honored to be serving as his pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be: Joe Cavazos, Francisco Pedraza, Juan Perez, David Saldivar, Lee Uribe, and Joaquin Villarreal.
