It is with great sadness that the family of Armando C. Ortiz announces the passing of their beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle on Sunday, September 20, 2020 at 87, in his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Armando, who was born in Santa Maria, Texas in 1933, lived in Brownsville his entire life. He was a proud veteran having served our country in the National Guard Army Reserve. Armando was a dedicated and faithful employee at J. C. Penney as an advertising manager, retiring after more than 30 years.
In his spare time, Armando enjoyed painting and was a talented and gifted artist, sharing his talents as a member of the Brownsville Fine Arts Painting League.
Armando was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by his family and friends, but by all those fortunate enough to have known him.
Armando was preceded in death by his parents: Francisca C. and Manuel B. Ortiz and a brother, Antonio Ortiz.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 60 years: Lydia Gonzalez Ortiz; 3 children: Jorge Luis Ortiz, Patricia Ortiz, and Melinda Ortiz Nail; the grandson who was his pride and joy, Jason S. Nail; a brother, Manuel “Manny” Ortiz and his wife Inez, his sister-in-law Bea Morrow, along with numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members, who will eternally treasure their memories of Armando.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11am Saturday, August 21, 2021 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Interment with military honors will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Armando’s name may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1914 Barnard Rd., Brownsville, TX 78520, and/or the Brownsville Museum of Fine Arts, 660 E. Ringgold St., Brownsville, TX 78520.
