BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Arnold Ira Benson, of Brownsville, Texas, passed away on Friday, the 21st of March 2025 at 4:50 in the afternoon. He was three days shy of his 83rd birthday. Born in the Bronx, New York, Arnie was a man of great intellect and character. With an exceptional Mensa IQ, he was known for his sharp wit, dry sense of humor, and his love of being the center of attention. His quick mind and engaging personality made him a force to be reckoned with, whether in business or in his personal life.

He was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather. Over the years, he lived in several places, including New Orleans and Florida, before ultimately settling in Texas, where he made a lasting impact on those around him. He served on the Greater Brownsville Incentives Commission during which he spearheaded getting Titan Tire to deed what is now North Brownsville Industrial Park.

A successful entrepreneur, Arnie built a legacy of hard work, perseverance, and innovation.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Amalia Isabel Benson; his brother, Philip Benson; children Risa Benson, Eric Benson, Nahessi, Lyla Benson (Diana), Gabrielle Claret Benson (fiancé Eric); stepchildren; Jaqueline Perez (Lyndsay), Amalia, Zoila (Da), Vianella (Drew); and grandchildren Sophia Benson, Samuel Benson, Seth Benson, Brooklyn Shen, Leon Shen, and Kaira Spaeth.

He was preceded in death by his father, Pete Benson, and mother, Ruth Levy Benson.

A Memorial Service will be held at four o'clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 28th of March 2025, with visiting hours to follow until eight o'clock at night within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. All services will conclude Friday night.

Arnie will be remembered for his unique humor, his love for life, and the way he could light up any room. His presence will be greatly missed.
