Barbara Jean Rivas-Saldana

Barbara Jean Rivas-Saldaña, 45, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter sister, aunt and friend entered into eternal rest on Thursday, October 8, 2015, at Valley Baptist Medical Center, in Harlingen, Texas. She was a dedicated, respected and loved public school math teacher at Resaca Middle School at the 6th and 7th grade levels in Los Fresnos CISD for 19 years until her recent retirement. She graduated from Pace High School and earned a Bachelors Degree in Mathematics at the University of Texas at Brownsville.

Always putting others before herself, Barbara will be loved and remembered by the many students whose lives she touched, by the fellow staff members at Resaca privileged to share her joyful personality and gorgeous smile, by the nurses, CNA's, physical therapists and Doctors who fought by her side, and by her family and many friends who she loved and appreciated.

She is survived by her husband, Luis Saldaña; a daughter, Brittany Rochelle White; 2 grandchildren, Paulina Isabella (Ella) and Brandon Ray; her parents, Bartolo and Maria Rivas and a brother, Randy Rivas. Also surviving are her nephew Gage Rivas and her niece, Stella Marie Rivas.

Barbara was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Rivas and a sister, Brenda Rivas.

A rosary is scheduled for 12 Noon on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. Public visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 11, 2015 with the recitation of another rosary at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 12, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1914 Barnard Rd. in Brownsville.

In accordance with Barbara's wishes, cremation will follow.

Honored to be serving as Barbara's pallbearers are Danny Gracia, David Gracia, Rene Gracia, Ezequiel "Zeke" Garcia, Robert " Bobby" Santa Ana and Juan Diego Luna.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer.
