BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Barbara Vasquez entered into eternal rest on Monday, the 13th of May 2024 in the comfort of her Brownsville residence surrounded by her family. She was ninety-one years of age.
Barbara was a longtime resident of Brownsville and worked as a local barber. A devout Catholic, she was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Her biggest joy was the company of her family and pets.
Preceding Barbara in death were her parents, Leonardo Vasquez and Maria Luisa Saucedo de Vasquez; her brother, Manuel Vasquez, and his children, Manuel Vasquez, Jr. and Maria Elena Vasquez.
Survivors include her siblings Maria Luisa Vasquez, Ofelia Rostro, and Jesus M. Vasquez; and her nieces and nephews Nora Vasquez, Javier Vasquez, Victor de Anda, Rodolfo de Anda, David de Anda, Clarissa Rostro, Jesus M Vasquez, Jr., Juliana Serna, and Jeannette Marroquin.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, the 15th of May 2024 between the hours of three o'clock in the afternoon and nine o'clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o'clock Wednesday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ten o'clock in the morning on Thursday, the 16th of May 2024 at the historic Immaculate Conception Cathedral, 1218 E. Jefferson Steet, Brownsville. All services will conclude at the church. Cremation will follow.
Honored to serve as her pallbearers will be Victor De Anda, Jesse Vasquez, Hermes Gonzales, Julian Rostro, Agustin Serna, and Domingo Garza. Honorary pallbearers are Rudy De Anda, David De Anda, Barry Baumstark, Ramon Zepeda, and Javier Vasquez.
The family will gather for a private inurnment at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens, where Barbara will be laid to rest with her parents.
