Baxter Holman Kirkconnell, age 78, died peacefully in his sleep on July 12, 2014 in Arlington, Texas. He was born in 1936 in Bonacca Bay Islands, Honduras, Central America but resided most of his life in Brownsville, Texas.
Baxter was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver A. Kirkconnell Sr. and Isabel Hunter Kirkconnell brothers, Oliver A. Kirkconnell Jr, Walter Kirkconnell, Dee Dee Kirkconnell and Lewis Kirkconnell.
Baxter is survived by his wife of 57 years, Pearl Feurtado Kirkconnell of Brownsville, Texas his daughter, Mary Kirkconnell Martin and soninlaw Robert Martin of Mansfield, Texas son, John Oliver Kirkconnell and daughterinlaw Selma Kirkconnell of Brownsville, Texas and daughter Karen Kirkconnell Quinif and soninlaw George Quinif of Paradise Valley, Arizona. He was blessed with eight wonderful grandchildren: Chase Hannah wife Britney Lauer of Houston, Texas Cristin Hannah of Arlington, Texas Sam Quinif wife Kristin Miller of Dallas, Texas Gus Quinif and Kate Quinif of Paradise Valley, Arizona Jon Robert Kirkconnell, Isabel Kirkconnell and Tristan Kirkconnell of Brownsville, Texas. He is also survived by his brothers, Cordell Kirkconnell of Houston, TX Robert Kirkconnell of Austin, TX Ted Kirkconnell of Los Fresnos, TX as well as their loving spouses and families.
Baxter was a loving husband, devoted father and successful businessman. He was an avid hunter who enjoyed the outdoors. Always quick with a smile and a joke, he spent many happy years entertaining family and friends. He came to Brownsville in the early 1950s to join his father, Oliver Kirkconnell who was importing shrimp from Mexico. He later took a job working in the oil fields of Morgan City, Louisiana. In 1957, he met and married his wife, Pearl Feurtado, in New Orleans, Louisiana and returned to Brownsville to begin his career in shrimping. He successfully ran his own fleet of shrimp boats until his retirement in the mid1990s.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 18 from 5:00 pm7:00 pm in the East chapel at DarlingMouser. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 19th at DarlingMouser. Committal services will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to thank his loyal and devoted caregivers of Avalon in Arlington, Texas for the wonderful care he received in the last months of his life.
