BROWNSVILLE, TX. - On June 10, 2021, Beatrice Gonzalez Morrow passed away peacefully with her sister by her side. Affectionately called Aunt Bea by her family, she had months prior reached the grand milestone of 100 years of age and celebrated with friends and family.
Born and raised in Brownsville, spending her childhood on the corner of 8th and Tyler, she made it her dream to help others and become a nurse. After graduating from Brownsville High School and gaining experience working in various doctors’ offices, Bea set her sights on Dallas and began attending Baylor University’s Louise Harrington’s School of Nursing. So began her 35 year tenure as a nurse at Baylor Hospital, with much of that time spent in the Intensive Care Unit. It was during that time in Dallas when she met her husband and love of her life Percy ‘Slim’ Morrow. Bea and Slim would enjoy over 20 years of marriage together.
Once Bea retired from her nursing career, she and Slim would spend their golden years traveling around the country together, often inviting her mother and sisters along with them. Even after Slim’s passing, she would still travel frequently to visit with family in Houston and Louisiana. In the last years of her life, she lived with her sister Lydia in Brownsville, and enjoyed day trips to South Padre Island.
Always active, laughing and smiling, Bea led a full and happy life. Her years of service as a nurse saved and brightened countless lives. She was loved by her extensive family and those who were fortunate enough to know her. She is survived by her sister Lydia Ortiz, her brother Simon Gonzalez, and a large extended family. When asked on her 100th birthday if she indeed felt 100 years old, her response was, ‘I feel more like 32.’
