Belinda Ann Guerra

BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Our Earth Angel, Belinda, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, the 13th of February 2024. Affectionately called Pita by her family, she was born on November 6, 1958 at Harlingen Air Force Base, Harlingen, Texas to Ruben and Berta Guerra. She lived a full and extensive life encountering many obstacles, but her family never failed to meet her needs. Many thought she would never live to the age of sixty-five, but she fooled everyone until she passed after complications with respiratory issues.

Since her father was a member of the U.S. Air Force, the family moved to Goodfellow Air Force Base, San Angelo, Texas for two years and then moved to Whiteman Air Force Base, Knob Noster, Missouri for twelve years before returning home to Brownsville in 1976. While attending school in Missouri, Belinda learned to roller skate and how to ride a bike. She then became very active in the Special Olympics in Missouri and Texas participating in track and field events and attended State competitions in Austin. Belinda was one of many special needs children that attended the newly opened Lincoln Park School for Special Needs students in 1978 for which the school was designed to serve. She loved to listen to music and she loved to dance. She always made her presence known to family at gatherings by seeking out her favorite uncles and sitting next to them.

Preceding Belinda in death were her maternal grandparents, Jose and Berta Barrera; her paternal grandparents, Estanislao and Rosa Guerra; as well as several uncles and aunts on both sides of the family.

Survivors include her parents, Ruben and Berta Guerra; her brothers, Robert Daniel (Sheri) Guerra and Richard Dean (Mary Elizabeth) Guerra; and her sister, Beverly Jean (Armando) Anzaldúa. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, Rebecca, Sarah, and Jeremy Guerra, Jennifer Espinoza, Estanislao (Tanis) Anzaldúa, and Richelle Guerra; and several grandnephews and a grandniece.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, the 16th of February 2024 between the hours of one o’clock in the afternoon and nine o'clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o'clock Friday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ten o'clock in the morning on Saturday, the 17th of February 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1914 Barnard Road, Brownsville. Interment will then follow, via an escorted procession, at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 McDavitt Boulevard, Brownsville.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the staff at Ebony Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. We are thankful for their time and dedication they took in caring for our Belinda.
