Benita Lozano López

Benita Lozano López, 95, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother entered the glory of her eternal life on Wednesday, August 7, 2019, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Benita was born in Sattler, Texas and grew up working the fields in California and West Texas. She was one of 16 children born to Julia and Andres Lozano. Benita was 4 years old when she lost a pregnant sister to a tornado in Rockport, Texas. They lived in a house with no floor, which the tornado picked up along with her pregnant sister who was never found. After the tornado destroyed their house, she was left to care for her 12 brothers and sisters. She took care of her family until she met Raul Garza Lopez, the love of her life, and they moved to  Brownsville, Texas in 1945.

In her spare time, Benita enjoyed gardening as she was blessed with a “Green Thumb”. She planted, grew, and sold both avocado and mango trees. Benita also enjoyed travelling to Vegas every year with her only daughter, Alma.

Benita was a hard worker who took care of everyone in her family. She was the first one up in the morning and the last one to go to bed after she made sure everyone was taken care of.

Benita was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all those fortunate enough to have known her.

Benita was preceded in death by her husband, Raul Garza Lopez; her parents, Julia and Andres Lozano and 15 siblings.

Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of Benita are her children: Raul L. (Georgina) Lopez, Alma Lopez Treviño, José Manuel “Joe” (fiancée Sandra Vallejo) Lopez, Lorenzo Lopez, Saul (Norma) Lopez, and Ernesto (Rosemary) Lopez; 23 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

The visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. and continue through 9:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service officiated by Pastor Richard Hinojosa scheduled for 6:00 p.m. The recitation of the holy rosary will follow at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 9, 2019, in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. The funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2019, at Our Heavenly Father Catholic Church in Olmito, Texas. The funeral procession to the Mass will be departing the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Committal services will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens. Benita’s sons: Ernesto and Saul along with her grandsons: Juan Antonio Avalos, Joey Lopez, Raul Lopez IV, and Roberto Lopez are honored to be serving as her pallbearers. Cesar A. Gutierrez, Joseph Lopez, and Pablo Lopez will serve as honorary pallbearers.
