Mr. Berl Williams, 87, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, greatgrandfather, uncle, and friend entered into eternal rest on Friday, February 1, 2013, at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, TX surrounded by his loving family.
Berl, a son of two countries, was born in Santa Barbara, Chihuahua, Mexico. He had been a resident of Brownsville for a number of years. Berl was a proud veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force during WW II. After being discharged, Berl was a policeman in Abilene, Texas before becoming a Border Patrol Agent for 10 years. He then worked transferred to the Immigration and Naturalization Service where he served for 30 years. Berl was stationed in El Paso, Alamogordo, N,.M., and Brownsville.
Berl was a quiet man who was very kind and always willing to lend a hand to a friend in need. Berl, a proud Chihuahueo, lived in Chihuahua until he was thirteen, and developed a passion for Bullfighting. He counted among his close and personal friends, Manolo Martinez and Eloy Cavazos. His other passion in life was baseball and like all true baseball aficionados, he couldnt wait for opening day.
Berl was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by those fortunate to have known him.
Berl was preceded in death by his parents, Berl Avery and Maude Williams his fraternal twin brother, Earl Williams and his older sister, Betty Williams.
Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of him is his beloved wife of 57 years, Elizabeth Bebe Gutierrez Williams five daughters: Maria Antonieta Franco, Sharyn Robert Portz, Cynthia Michael Kirshner, Liza Y. partner Patrick Philpot Williams, and Mari Carmen Sierra Munguia a nephew, Gary Earl Williams and two nieces Diane and Carol numerous grandchildren, stepgrandchildren, and nieces and nephews on his wifes side of the family, and other extended family members. .
Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, February 4, 2013 in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. The American Legion Funeral Honor Guard will render Military honors under the direction of Commander Raul Leal at 6:00 p.m., followed by a rosary and chapel service with Communion. All services will conclude on Monday evening and in accordance with Berls wishes cremation will follow.
