Mrs. Bertha SummerallRamirez, 96, of Brownsville, Texas, beloved mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, and aunt entered into the glory of her eternal life on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Ramirez was born on January 23, 1914, in Falfurrias, Texas, one of nine children born to Luisa and Augustin de la Pea. She graduated from Rio Grande High School in 1932 and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas A I University in 1936. She worked for the BISD as both an elementary and middle school teacher for more than 30 years.
In 1948, she married James Summerall, and they had two children, Saul and Mary. Mr. Summerall passed away in 1972. In 1989, she married Calixto Cale Ramirez and they enjoyed 22 years together. Bertha loved reading and traveling and she and Cale were able to travel to many different places.
Bertha will be remembered by family and friends for her curious and open mind her loving and generous heart, and her passionate and determined spirit.
She was preceded in death and has now joined her parents, Luisa and Augustin de la Pea her 1st husband, James Summerall and 2 sisters and 6 brothers.
Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of her is her loving husband of 22 years: Calixto Cale R. Ramirez her son Saul Summerall and his wife Julie her daughter, Mary Summerall her stepchildren: Calixto Cali A. Ramirez and his wife Stella, Rolando Ramirez, and Marianela Watson her grandchildren: Valerie, Melanie, and William Watson Michael and Mark Ramirez, and Denise and David Gonzalez 1 greatgranddaughter, Nadia Marie Ramirez and her numerous nieces and nephews.
Viewing will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday, August 15, 2010 with the family greeting friends from 6 to 7 p.m. with the recitation of the holy at 7 p.m. Sunday evening. The Mass of Christian Resurrection will be at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, August 16, 2010 at St. Marys Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Calixto Cali A. Ramirez, Mark J. Ramirez, Rolando J. Ramirez, Ernest Tijerina, Rolando Trujillo Jr., and William Watson are honored to be serving as Berthas pallbearers. Cristobal Jimenez and Eduardo Maron will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Berthas family also wishes to acknowledge with deep gratitude and affection Alejandra Baca Garcia, who faithfully and lovingly cared for her in the last years of her life.
