Calixto Rangel Ramirez, 105, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather entered into eternal rest on Sunday, February 12, 2017, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Calixto, a native of Falfurrias, was a longtime Brownsville resident. He was the owner/operator of Ebony Heights Pharmacy for 28 years. Calixto was a proud WWII veteran and was most probably the oldest living local veteran from that war. Calixto was a reciepient of several decorations and citations but was especially proud of receiving a Purple Heart. Calixto served our community in various ways. He was a Commissioner with the Brownsville Housing Authority and was instrumental in helping build the Villa del Sol High Rise Building. Calixto was also an active member of the VFW, Lions Club International, the Elks Lodge, SCORE, and the Brownsville Historical Assoc. But Calixto's true passion was Golf. He enjoyed a round of golf daily up until he was 100!! Calixto was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by his family and friends, but by all those fortunate enough to have known him.
Calixto was preceded in death by his first wife, Armandina de la Peña Ramirez; his second wife, Bertha de la Peña Ramirez; his parents; his grandparents; and his siblings: Ramiro Ramirez and Estella R. Jimenez.
Calixto is survived by his children: Calixto "Cale" (Stella) Ramirez, Rolando Ramirez, and Marianela Ramirez Watson; his seven grandchildren: Michael Ramirez, Denise Gonzalez, Mark (Amy) Ramirez, David Gonzalez, Valerie (Zoltan) Rizanji, Melanie Watson, and William Watson; one great-granddaughter, Nadia Ramirez: and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
