A CELEBRATION OF LIFE

Carl Rutherford Meyer, 90, passed away February 1, 2016 in his home in Port Isabel, Texas. He was born April 23, 1925 in San Francisco County, California. He was preceded in death by his parents, August Carl and Isabelle (Rutherford) Meyer, wife, Carol (Stenback) Meyer, sister Elizabeth Meyer, brother Paul J. Meyer, and daughter Doreen Meyer.

He is survived by his wife M. Joyce Meyer, daughter Laurey (Rick) Mouledous, grand-daughters Dr. Allison Abresch- Meyer and Paige Mouledous , son-in law Dr. Charles Turner, and several nieces and nephews. Special thanks are extended to Jon Wilson for his devotion to Carl and to Caregivers Margie Hernandez and Jovita Ibarra for their, loving care following Carl's stroke in May 2014.

Carl attended school in Campbell, California throughout his life. In his early years he established L.A. Eureka Lines and developed a method of icing down fish that made it possible to transport fresh fish to cities from Northern to Southern California.

Upon reading an article in the Wall Street Journal in the 1950's, that swimming pools would become a common part of neighborhood yards, Carl Meyer began his life long career as an icon in the pool industry designing and manufacturing pool furniture, vinyl liners for in-ground pools, spas, water slides, diving boards and swimspas, which he pioneered. His products have been sold all over the world.

In the early 1970's Carl and Carol Meyer moved their manufacturing plant from Whittier, California to the Port of Brownsville, in Brownsville, Texas. His last company, Rio Plastics was closed in 2015.

During his lifetime Carl Meyer made long lasting friends, many of whom he considered to be family. He is remembered by many as one who was quick to help a friend in need. He wore colorful clothing and those who attend the Celebration of His Life at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home, 945 Palm Blvd., Brownsville, Texas, at 2:00 p.m. on February 27, 2016 are encouraged to wear bright clothing in his honor.
