Carlos G. Cantu, 84, of Wallis, TX and formerly of Brownsville, TX, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, September 25, 2008. He was born December 14, 1923 in Brownsville and was the second of five children born to Eugenio and Julia Cantu. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elvia; son, Jose Ruben; and sisters, Elida Gomez and Celeste Hunter. He is survived by children, Carlos Rosanne Cantu, Jr. of Georgetown, TX, Irma

Gary Morrison of San Antonio, TX, Gene Selina Cantu of Kingsville, TX, Terri

Keith Palmer of Wallis, TX; sister, Ninfa Gutierrez of Brownsville; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Irene Trevino, Concha Uribe, Adelita Oscar Hinojosa, brother-in-law, Napoleon Manuela Cisneros all of Brownsville and sister-in-law, Enriqueta Felipe Bermea of Warren, Ohio.

Mr. Cantu served his country during World War II as a proud member of Able Battery, 951st Field Artillery Battalion in the European Theatre. He was honorably discharged in 1945, and he returned to Brownsville to continue a life guided by the principles of honesty, integrity, hard work, and love of family which he maintained throughout his life.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, September 28, 2008 with recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m. in the Darling-Mouser Funeral Home, 945 Palm Blvd.

Mass of resurrection will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 2008 at Immaculate Conception Cathedral. Interment will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.

Military Honors will be conducted at the graveside by the VFW under the direction of Commander Luis Lucio.

Pallbearers will be Chris T. Cantu, Randy Morrison, Michael Morrison, Michael Cantu, Kevin Bayer, Chris J. Cantu, Darrell Palmer, and Dalton Palmer. Honorary pallbearers will be Mandy Krause and daughter, Maddie, Zane Cantu, Evan Cantu, Zander Morrison and Oscar Martin Hinojosa.
