Carlota Perez De Romo

Carlota Perez de Romo, 96, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at her residence in Brownsville, Texas surrounded by her loving family.

Doña Callotita, as she was affectionately known by her family and close friends, was born in La Palma, a municipality of Encarnacion de Diaz, Jalisco, Mexico. She was married to Manuel Romo for 46 years until his passing in January 1991. Doña Callotita moved with her family to Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, in 1980, and around 1984 she moved to Brownsville. In her late 70s she proudly became a United States Citizen. She remained a resident of Brownsville until her passing.

Doña Callotita was a devoted wife and mother, who loved to read her prayer books daily with absolute devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In addition, on a daily basis, she would pray the Angelus at noon followed by the rosary at 3 P.M. She fasted on Fridays, every week of her life until her last days.

At a very young age, Doña Callotita would accompany her father, a violinist, on his musical engagements and, thus, acquired a love of music and dance. Doña Callotita looked forward to spending time with her children as often as possible. She took pride in preparing meals for her family making sure there was plenty for everyone. Her favorite pastime was caring for her flowers, reading her western "novelitas", and watching Chuck Norris in "Walker, Texas Ranger". Doña Callotita was very reserved yet loved surprising everyone with her original and unexpected jokes, which caused much laughter. Just the same, she always had the best stories to share. Her morning routine consisted of saying her daily prayers, applying her make-up, choosing a dress and matching jewelry (her favorite being her pearls), painting her nails, and making sure her hair was perfect.

Doña Callotita was the matriarch of the Romo family, including children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. It was she who always lead with an iron fist, yet she did so with grace. To each member of her family, she spoke the truth, and at the same time never spoke ill of anyone. She was a pillar of strength, despite any pain she may have been feeling. Her legacy will continue for years to come. She will always be loved and will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched in one way or another.

Carlota is preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Romo; her parents, Maria del Refugio and Eutiquio Perez; a son, Juan Francisco Romo and 6 siblings.

Carlota is survived by her children: Gildardo (Altagracia) Romo, Cruzmaria (Joe) Treviño, Ubaldo (Cecilia) Romo, Ana Teresa (Juan) DeAnda, Delia (Everardo) Ascencio, Lilia (Sergio) Hernandez, Margarita (Jerry+) Beard, José Manuel (Maria Teresa) Romo, and Jaime Enrique Romo. Carlota will also be missed by her 24 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 27, 2018, from 12 Noon to 9:00 p.m. in the West Chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home, with a rosary service scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Friday evening.
