Charles E. Loop

Charles Edwin Loop, age 83, passed away on October 10, 2018 at his home in Brownsville, Texas. He was born on March 17, 1935 in Brownsville, Texas to Charles Daniel Loop and Naomi Bickerdike Loop, both from Medford, Oklahoma. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Kay Easterly Loop; two sons, Timothy Edwin Loop (Terry) and Charles Paul Loop (Linda); a daughter, Rhonda Loop Rodriguez (Tony); and three granddaughters, Abigail, Elizabeth, and Caroline.
Charles was raised on a farm in the El Jardin community east of Brownsville with his three sisters and two brothers: Anita Baker, Nadine Robertson, Doris King, Dale Loop, and Leonard Loop. He enjoyed playing sports, especially six-man football at El Jardin School. After graduating from Brownsville High School, he attended Texas A&I University, Kingsville, and then served two years in the U.S. Army.
Returning to Brownsville, Charles started his own farming operation and later formed Loop Farms with his brother, Leonard. Charles loved farming and enjoyed giving his time and knowledge to such things as: soybean variety test plots with Rio Farms, numerous corn and sorghum variety test plots and drip irrigation testing with the Texas A&M AgriLife and Cameron County extension services, consulting trips to Paraguay and Romania, serving on the boards of the Brownsville Cooperative Gin and Tip-O-Tex Elevator, and his most recent project, growing grapes for wine production. In his later years, Charles loved helping out his sons on their farm. Hard-working, he especially enjoyed irrigating crops, even as recently as this past spring.
In his leisure time, Charles was usually reading a paperback cowboy book, spending time with friends in a coffee shop, driving around the farm, or down at Boca Chica Beach looking for sea beans or shells.
He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Charles was a member of the Central Christian Church in Brownsville, Texas, where a service in his remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday the 12th of October. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Moody Clinic.
