With great sadness in our hearts, we are announcing the loss of our beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, Charles R. “Charlie” Colunga, 70, who entered into the glory of his eternal life on Friday, July 31, 2020, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville.
“Charlie”, as he was affectionately known by to all, was born in El Paso, Texas. As a young man, Charlie lived in several Texas cities. Charlie, was a proud US Navy veteran, having served our country honorably during the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Charlie worked for both Braniff and United Airlines. This gave him the opportunity to travel to many different places. Upon leaving the airline industry, Charlie went to work for the United States Postal Service in Austin, Texas. He recently retired and was looking forward to making memories in his new home that he just bought to be closer to his mom.
In his spare time, Charlie enjoyed baseball, golf, sport events, the beach, traveling, the movies, going out to eat, and spending time with family and friends. He was a very outgoing guy, and everyone knew him by his humor and smile.
Charlie was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by his family and friends but by all those fortunate to have known him.
Charlie was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Rafaela and Pablo Reyna.
Charlie is survived by his beloved mother, Marta (George) Castillo; the brothers and sisters who looked up to their older brother: Jaime (Esperanza) Colunga, Sandra (Eddie) Fernandez, Dr. Ricardo (Hilda) Castillo, George Castillo, and Gardenia (Pete) Yzaguirre along with numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends.
