Mr. Cruz S. Flores, 86, of Brownsville, entered into eternal rest at his residence Sunday, March 8, 2009. A lifelong resident of Brownsville, he worked as a cook at the Fort Brown restaurant, The Vermillion and at Friends. He proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Force.

Mr. Flores was preceded in death by his parents Matias S. Flores and Ines S. Flores; siblings, Lupe Ramirez, Refugia Correa, Susano Flores, Pabla Aldana, Luisa Vargas and her husband Roberto and Juan Flores.

Left to eternally treasure his memory are his wife of 52 years, Amparo T. Flores of Brownsville; children, Alicia Juan Galvan of Los Fresnos, Yolanda Manuel Placencia of Houston, Mario Flores of Houston, Irma Flores of Brownsville, Armando Flores of Houston, Sonia James Hilsenbeck of Harlingen, Larry Janie Flores of Los Fresnos, Gloria Danny Fernandez of Kingsville, Crispin Cris Jane Garza of Brownsville, Ester Ferrel of Conroe and Arturo Lisa Garza of Houston; 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; a sister, Carmen Julian Vera of Brownsville and a sister-in-law, Amparo G. Flores of Brownsville as well as numerous other relatives.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 10, 2009, with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7:00 p.m. in the Darling-Mouser Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 11, 2009 in the Immaculate Conception Cathedral with Father Michael Amesse officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens with military honors rendered by Commander Raul J. Leal, Jr. and the Veterans Honor Guard of American Legion Post 43.

Honored to serve as Mr. Cruzs pallbearers are Juan Gabriel Galvan, Marco Galvan, Michael Placencia, Mario Joseph Placencia, Larry Flores and Jeremiah R. Garza. Honorary pallbearers will be Mario Flores, Armando Flores, Cris Garza, Arturo Garza, James Hilsenbeck, Manuel Placencia and Juan Galvan.
