Dahlia Nora Pineda, 48, a loving and caring daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend to many, entered eternal life on November 12, 2010. She was born in Brownsville, Texas on October 25, 1962 to her loving parents Johnny I. Pineda and Gracie Martinez Pineda.
Dahlia was a 1979 Porter High School graduate at the age of 16. She earned her Bachelor Degree in Journalism and Communication at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos in 1982, and her Masters Degree in Educational Administration at University of Texas at Brownsville.
She worked for the San Antonio Express News and KGBT in Harlingen. In 1984, she pursued a career in education in 1984 where she found her passion. She was an English, Speech, Journalism teacher and yearbook sponsor at Pace High School for 7 years and Journalism for 4 years at Robert E. Lee High School in San Antonio. She returned to her hometown and was an administrator for 12 years at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels.
Dahlia was an avid reader who often traveled the world through her books. She never hesitated to share her knowledge with all who listened, especially her nephews and niece. She was a giving individual who would not hesitate to place herself second to anyone needing help. She had a deep devotion to the students she served as well as a deep appreciation for her colleagues, friends and family. She had a contagious smile that will remain in the hearts of all she touched.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Cipriano Martinez, Sr. and Elisa G. Martinez paternal grandparents, Roman Pineda and Isidora G. Pineda aunts, Andrea P. Fernandez, Catalina P. Shull, Trinidad Chapa, Minerva Barron, Carlota Martinez, Fanny Martinez, Berta Martinez and Olivia Martinez uncles, Gilberto Pineda, Cipriano Martinez, Jr., Lee Chandler, Jose Fernandezand Louis Rousset cousins, Bobby Blanchard and Noe Fernandez.
She is survived by her parents, Johnny I. Pineda and Gracie M. Pineda brothers, Johnny Ivan Estella Pineda South Padre Island and Oscar Louis Juanita Pineda San Antonio a sister, Irmalissa Pineda Jaime Vela her pride and joy, nephews Johnny Izaak Pineda, Ethan James Vela, Austin Luke Vela, David Erica Cavazos Brownsville, Daniel Ivan Pineda Austin, Stephen Michael Pineda, Matthew David Pineda San Antonio, great nephew Joaquin Kahea Cavazos and her only niece, JoIza Pineda Houston. She had several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 16th, in the Chapel of DarlingMouser Funeral Home. Visitation will resume at 7 p.m., at St. Marys Catholic Church, 1914 Barnard Rd., with the recitation of the holy rosary to be held at 7:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Resurrection will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 17th at St. Marys Catholic Church, 1914 Barnard Rd., with interment following at Buena Vista Burial Park. Pallbearers will be Johnny Izaak Pineda, Ed Grafwallner, Hector Zamarripa, Ruben Fernandez, Gilbert Pineda, Alfredo Freddy Salinas, Ruben Martinez and Jaime Garcia. Honorary Pallbearers are Daniel Ivan Pineda, Stephen Michael Pineda, Matthew David Pineda, Ethan James Vela, Austin Luke Vela, and David Cavazos.
