Damaso Parra

Damaso Parra, 84, beloved husband, father, fatherinlaw, grandfather, greatgrandfather, and friend, entered into the glory of his eternal life on Friday, April 1, 2011 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Parra, who was born in Matamoros, Tamps., Mexico on December 11, 1926, came to live in Brownsville as a young boy. He was a parishioner of St. Josephs Catholic Church and after attending an Acts Retreat became an active member of the Acts Retreat team. Mr. Parra was a loving and devoted husband who loved spending time with his wife of 64 years. They enjoyed going out to lunch and dinner together, out to parties and dancing, or going to visit with their children and their families. A handy man at heart, he could never sit still, but rather was always looking to see what needed to be fixed or mended. Mr. Parra will be truly missed by those fortunate to have known him.

Mr. Parra was preceded in death by his parents, Lucinda Meraz Parra and Juan Parra his first born son, Damaso Parra Jr., and a brother, Juan Parra.

Left to eternally treasure his memory are his loving wife of 64 years, Josefina Finita Parra his children: Rosa Maria Juan Manuel Reyes, Javier Alejandra Parra, Gerardo Eva Parra, and Hector Armandina Parra his daughterinlaw, Juani G. Parra 22 grandchildren, 12 greatgrandchildren, and many friends.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today, Sunday, April 3, 2011 and continue through 9 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m. this evening in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. Visitation will resume at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 4th. The funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 4, 2011 at St. Josephs Catholic Church, 555 W. St. Francis St.

Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Parras grandsons are honored to be serving as pallbearers for their beloved grandfather. Mr. Eusebio Lopez, his roommate at Ebony Lakes, together with the rest of the grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
