Darrell Jean Windhaus, 71, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, December 29, 2013, at the Brownsville Seaport in Brownsville, Texas.
Darrell, who was born in Missouri, grew up in Brownsville. He graduated in 1961 from St. Josephs Academy. Darrell served our country proudly serving in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam Era from 19681970. After being honorably discharged, he joined the U.S. Postal Service in 1971and became the Post Master in 1980. Darrell retired from the Postal Service in 1999 he then joined the Immigration and Naturalization Service in 2001 stationed first in Roma, Texas. Darrell transferred to Customs and Border Protection in 2003 and was currently stationed at the Gateway Bridge.
Darrell was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by his family and friends but by all those fortunate to have known him.
Viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. Mr. Windhaus family will begin to greet friends at 3:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon. The VFW Post 2035 Funeral Honor Guard will render Military Honors at 6:00 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life service. All services will conclude Thursday evening, and in accordance with Mr. Windhaus wishes, cremation will follow.
