David Saenz, 48, beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend departed for his heavenly home on Wednesday, October 6, 2010, after a valiant battle against colon cancer, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
A native and lifetime resident of Brownsville, David was the third son born to Jose P. and Maria Elena Saenz on October 16, 1961. He was a proud product of the BISD, graduating from Homer Hanna High School in 1979. He was an even prouder Aggie, graduating from Texas A M in 1984, with a degree in Environmental Design.
David spent his life designing buildings, most recently and notably the newest high school for the BISD, Veterans Memorial High School. David was a partner and chief architect with Gomez, Mendez, and Saenz Inc. David leaves behind an extraordinary portfolio that includes structures throughout the Rio Grande Valley, the State of Texas, and the United States.
David will always be remembered for his love of the game of golf. Not a weekend went by without David playing a round of 18 holes either with his son Brandon or his golfing buddies.
As a young man, David was a body builder and Karate enthusiast and earned his Black Belt, but cars were Davids true passion. He could and would talk to anyone about any car old or new, but his favorite was the Ford Mustang. In the last few years, he was instrumental in organizing a Mustang Club in Brownsville known as Team Mustang of Brownsville. He and other club members hosted car shows which showcased the Mustang. It brought him great pleasure to be able to provide a venue where not only local Mustang owners but Mustang owners from across the state could show off their works of art. He was especially proud of his latest car project a 1966 Mustang that he and his son Brandon rebuilt together.
David was proud of all his designs, but he especially took great pride in having designed his home. To his family his most enduring project will be the designing of and completion of his backyard all by himself. Davids affliction with Parkinsons made this project quite a struggle for him, but he was able to get it done. His loved one will forever remember how much love he put into completing that project.
David served on various committees within our community. He served as the President of the St. Lukes School Board, while his son Brandon was a student of the school the Building Committee of St. Josephs Academy PSJA Handicapped Chair and the Brownsville Early College High School at the UTBTSC campus.
David was also a member of several architectural associations among them: the American Institute of Architects, Texas Society of Architects, and the lower Rio Grande Valley Chapter of the AIA where he served as their president.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Adolfo and Francesca Vera his paternal grandparents, Jose and Lupita Saenz and his motherinlaw, Alice Hon Ramon.
Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of him are his loving wife and high school sweetheart, Marie T. Ramon Saenz the son that he was so proud of, Brandon David Saenz his parents, Jose P. and Maria Elena Nena Saenz 4 brothers: Luis and his wife Norma Saenz, Omar and his wife Ida Saenz, George and his wife Norma Saenz, and Daniel and his wife Carla Saenz his nieces and nephews: Steven, Jason, Elise, Victoria, Sophia, Ian, Carlos, and Sebastian Saenz.
