David Arthur "Arty" Edwards

BROWNSVILLE, TX. – David Arthur “Arty” Edwards entered into eternal rest on Saturday, the 13th of November 2021 in Harlingen, Texas at the age of eighty-five.

Arty was born on the 31st of August 1936 in Claremore, Oklahoma, son of Marshall Raymond Edwards and Rowena Anderson Edwards. He graduated from Daniel Webster High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma and later went on to earn his Master's Degree at Northeaster State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Arty was a veteran of the Korean Warn, proudly serving his country in the United States Navy where he was awarded the National Defense Medal. He went on to teach both at the high school and collegiate level and was awarded Teacher of the Year in 1977 at Cave Springs Public Schools. In his spare time, Arty enjoyed sailing the open ocean, reading, gardening, ranching, and farming.

Preceding Arty in death were his parents, Marshall Raymond Edwards and Rowena Anderson Edwards, and his sister, Sue Adams.

Survivors including his loving and devoted wife, Maximina “Cookie” Edwards; children Jimmy Price, David, and Daniel Edwards; grandchildren Jillian Rachael, Jordan Leanna, Robert Abraham, Kyra Nicole, David Isaac, Jimmy Reed Price; Amanda Lee, Michael Raymond, Kaylen Nichole, Samantha Danae, Stephanie Lynn, and Driannah Jane Edwards; great-grandchildren Ezra Flores, Olivia, Mila Viviana Edwards, and Elijah Wane Hagemann; a brother, Marshall Raymond Edwards, Jr., and a sister, Jane Clay; and nephews, Sam and James Clay.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at ten o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, the 21st of December 2021 within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. This service will be livestreamed and recorded for viewing on www.darlingmouser.com. Inurnment with military honors will follow at two o’clock in the afternoon within the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery Columbarium, 2520 Inspiration Road, Mission, Texas 78572.
