Delia Galvan, 87, passed away on Friday, November 13, 2009 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen. She was born on April 15, 1922 in San Benito, Texas. Delia was a proud, lifelong die-hard Greyhound fan.
Delia was a devoted Catholic, and was an active parishioner of St. Josephs Catholic Church. She was always involved in many of the parish activities. Her favorite hobby was making cakes with her son, Frank from Franks Cakes.
Mrs. Galvan was preceded in death by her mother Estefana Rocha De La Garza; her father, Santiago De La Garza; her step-mother, Adela De La Garza; her husband, Deacon Frank Galvan Sr.; her son, John J. Galvan; her brothers, Juan and Jose De La Garza; and her sister, Elvira Rodriguez.
Delias surviving family include: her daughter, Ercilia Galvan Cantu; her son, Frank Galvan Jr.; the three grandchildren that were her pride and joy: Marc Galvan, Monica Ray Ramirez and Yvette Jose Caceres; one great-grandson, Braedan Caceres; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 15, 2009 from 12 Noon until 9 p.m. Sister Tulia and Sister Evelyn will be leading the recitation of the holy rosary at 7:00 p.m. in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. Father Jerry Frank, longtime pastor and friend will celebrate the Mass of Christian Resurrection at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 16, 2009 at St. Josephs Catholic Church, 555 West St. Francis St. in Brownsville. Committal services will follow to Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas.
The Deacons that served with Delias husband Frank are honored to be serving as her pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the 1961 San Benito Greyhound Team. San Benito Greyhounds are requested to wear their Greyhound shirts. Go Hounds Go
Delias family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support these last few weeks especially Lupe and Juan Martinez, Linda Torres, Nora Gonzalez, Yoli Gomez, Deacon Francisco Garza, Ida Lugo, Elida Gomez, Sister Tulia, Sister Evelyn, and her lifetime friends and school mates: Minerva Ratliff, Elida Villarreal, and Santos Villarreal. They would also like to thank the CCU doctors and staff from Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen.
