Derrell Kennedy, 82, entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 1, 2014, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas.
Derrell was born in Brookfield, MO. He graduated from Brookfield High School and completed a two year business program in Chilicothe, Mo. He served in the Army from 195254.
Derrell moved to Chicago, IL with the Santa Fe Railroad. It was there he met Corinne, who he married in 1957. Derrell worked in retail and food service until retirement in 2005.
Derrell was a member of the Poplar Grove Lions Club and was very active in the Gladys Porter Zoo Docent Program. Derrell spent the last 7 years of his life in Brownsville, On the Border, By the Sea with his daughters. Derrell was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all those fortunate to have known him.
Derrell is preceded in death by his parents, Lillian and Carl Kennedy and a cousin, Joan Gieck.
Derrell is survived by his wife of 57 years, Corinne Kennedy two daughters: Sarah and Martha Kennedy and a cousin, Marilyn Buckman.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 5, 2014, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. Military honors will be rendered by the American Legion John Hanson Post 43 Funeral Honor Guard at 7:15 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
In accordance with Derrells wishes, cremation will follow. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Grace Lutheran Church, 1001 E. Jackson St. in Harlingen, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Derrells name may be to the Gladys Porter Zoo Docent Program, 500 Ringgold Street, Brownsville, TX 78520 andor Grace Lutheran Church, 1001 East Jackson St., Harlingen, Texas 78550.
