Donaciana G. Blackwelder, 83, our beloved mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, and friend entered into the glory of her eternal life on Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Valley Baptist Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
Mary, as she was affectionately known to all, was born in Progreso, San Luis Potosi, Mexico but came to live in Brownsville when she was sixteen years old. Marys passion was cooking and her two favorite dishes to prepare were Carne Guisada and Chile Rellenos. Mary took great pleasure and in hearing people rave about her dishes. Mary also enjoyed her plants, her chickens, and her dogs, Lola Levi.
Mary was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all those fortunate to have known her.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Gilbert Blackwelder her parents, one sister and one brother.
Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of her are children: Barbara Ben Carpenter, Alfredo Garcia, Stephen Rene Blackwelder, Ruth Jesse Martinez Blackwelder, and Alan Rosa Lopez Blackwelder seven grandchildren seventeen greatgrandchildren one brother, Jose Carlos Garca Martinez and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, 2013, and continue through 9:00 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. A Liturgical Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 15, 2013, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1200 Lincoln Street, in Brownsville, TX. Committal services will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses in the ICU at VBMC in Brownsville and Dr. Francis Gumbel for their kindness and compassion.
