Dr. Roger Glenn Burns


Dr. Roger G. Burns, was born in Seymour, Indiana in 1944. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Dorothy Perrin Burns and his brother, Randy Burns. He is survived by his father, Ret. Col. Estel Burns and his brother, Ronnie Burns. Also surviving are his daughter, Danielle and his son, Jason, a niece, Amy Burns Hinojosa and nephew, Josh Burns.

Dr. Burns graduated from OSU in 1966, then with his doctorate degree in Psychology a few years later from Oklahoma State University. He has served as school psychologist for Ft. Bend I.S.D. For ten years he worked as a evaluator for Tarrant County Court systems and various other counties in the Metroplex. In 1978 he came to the Rio Grande Valley and worked at Region One Education Center as an evaluator and trainer for special education programs all over the valley. Dr. Burns was also a teacher and mentor to many students of psychology, he taught classes at Pan American in the 70s. He also worked with many other school districts in the Valley as an in-service speaker. For the past 15 years, Dr. Burns has served as a school psychologist for Brownsville I.S.D.

Dr. Burns loved traveling, being outdoors and hunting his favorite game, boars. His passion was collecting, working and reading about classic cars and motorcycles.

Finally, one last accomplishment that Dr. Burns was extremely proud of was having served for four years in the United States Airforce. Born and raised in a military family, he was proud to have served his part in protecting his country.

Dr. Roger Glenn Burns will be missed as a son, a brother, a father, a friend and a psychologist.

Visitation will begin Sunday, March 22, 2009 at 1p.m., with the recitation of the holy rosary to be held at 7p.m., in the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser. Mass of Resurrection will be held at 3p.m., Monday, March 23, at St. Marys Catholic Church with burial to follow to Buena Vista Burial Park. Military rites will be held at the gravesite by the VFW Post 2035 under the direction of Commander Luis Lucio.
