BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Eduarda M. “Cookie” Gonzalez, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, and friend entered into the glory of her eternal life on Thursday, the 12th of October 2023 in the comfort of her Brownsville residence surrounded by her loving family, one day shy of her eighty-sixth birthday.
Cookie was a lifetime resident of Brownsville. She was devoted to her family and was a foster parent to many over the span of twenty-six years. Cookie was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by her family and friends but by all those fortunate enough to have known her.
Preceding Cookie in death was her loving and devoted husband of sixty-one years, Tomas Vela Gonzalez; her parents, Charles Haggstrom and Berta Deanda Haggstrom; and her sister, Guadalupe Maldonado (Miguel+).
Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of Cookie are her children Esmeralda (Carlos) Navarro, Ana (Juan) Castro, Carlos Tomas (Gloria "Tootsie") Gonzalez, Evelia (Juan) Salazar, Gisela "Gigi" Gonzalez, Nicole (Raul) Martinez, and Louis (Krystal) Gonzalez; twenty-three grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and twenty great-great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family members.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, the 16th of October 2023 between the hours of eleven o’clock in the morning and nine o'clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o'clock Monday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at twelve noon on Tuesday, the 17th of October 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 555 W. St Francis Street, Brownsville. Interment will then follow, via an escorted procession, at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4464 Old Port Isabel Road, Brownsville.
