Edward J. Haffner

Edward J. Haffner II, former owner of Edward J. Haffner Associates Real Estate Appraisal Firm and longtime real estate appraisal and accounting instructor at Texas Southmost College and the University of Texas at Brownsville, died peacefully on August 30, 2012.
Haffner is survived by his wife, Antonia Wysocki Haffner of Brownsville two natural children, Linda H. Weil of Corpus Christi and Edward J. Haffner III of Brownwood two stepchildren, Karen Wysocki James of Houston and Sylvia Wysocki Powell of Austin and 7 grandchildren: Amelia Haffner Baugh, Lewis Edward Weil, Michael Ryan Weil, Ashleigh James, Travis James, Reese Powell and Vanessa Powell.
Haffner came to Brownsville in 1980. He started an appraisal business and taught at the Texas Southmost CollegeUT at Brownsville for many years.
Prior to coming to Brownsville, he lived in Harlingen, Brownwood, Dallas, and Decatur, Ill., where he was born. Haffner was ordained as an Episcopalian priest by the Diocese of West Texas in 1955. He held positions at various churches in Brownwood and Coleman, and served as chaplain for the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen before retiring from the priesthood. He also had an appraisal business in Brownwood. Prior to becoming a priest, he served as a member of the U.S. Army.
The family wants to thank Odyssey Hospice and Sunshine Haven for their caring and compassionate assistance during this difficult time. Funeral services will be held at Church of the Advent Episcopal Church, 104 W. Elizabeth St. in Brownsville, at 11 am on Saturday Sept. 1, 2012. Reception will follow. The family requests donations to Sunshine Haven in lieu of flowers.
