Elia Pinky Lopez Garcia, 94, of Brownsville, beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother entered into the glory of her eternal life on Monday, June 16, 2008 at her residence.
Pinky as she was affectionately known to all, was born in Rio Grande City on April 8, 1914. She had been a resident of Brownsville for over 80 years. As a young girl, Pinky was quite the athlete and was a member of an all girls baseball team that played baseball until after the end of WW II.
Pinky was a hair dresser and the owneroperator of Pinkys Hair Salon in downtown Brownsville for many years. A devout Catholic, Pinky was a parishioner for many years at St. Josephs Catholic Church. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Bishop Adolph Marx 1988.
Pinky was a devoted wife and mother. She was always there for her daughters and would drop everything to be at their side whenever they needed her. When her daughters were young girls, Pinky was a leader for their Girl Scout Troop. Mom, you were the wind beneath our wings and you will be in our hearts until we meet again.
Pinky was preceded in death by her husband Eustorgio Toto Garcia; her parents, Ernesto and Otila Lopez; a great-granddaughter, Ashley Scordo; her sister, Josefina L. Garcia; and 3 brothers, Ernesto Jr., Alvaro, and Leonel Lopez.
Left behind to eternally treasure her memory are her 3 daughters: Judy and her husband Pat Scordo from Scottsdale, AZ; Mary Helen and her husband Arval Headrick from Laguna Vista, TX; and Norma Roberson from Austin, TX; the 6 grandchildren that were her pride and joy, Richard and his wife Shelly Scordo and their children Michael, Vincent, and Gianna from Dallas, TX; Kenneth and his wife Bridgett Scordo and their children Lucas and Leo from Laguna Niguel, CA; Cindy and her husband David Clark and their daughter Isabella from Newport Beach, CA; Arval Headrick Jr. and his children Arval III and Gabriella Danielle from Dallas, TX; Howard Keith Headrick from Houston, TX; and Leonard Paul and his wife Christy Headrick and their children Alexa Brianna and Nathaniel from Houston, TX; her sister, Imelda L. Sanchez, from Alice, TX; and 1 brother Lauro and his wife Maria Celia Lopez from Rio Grande City, TX. She will also be missed by her numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 5 p. m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 and continue through 9 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening in the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. on, Thursday, June 19, 2008 at St. Josephs Catholic Church, 555 W. St. Francis St. Interment will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
